Color Theory - Learn What Colors Work Best With Your Hair and Skin Tone

Color Theory For as helpful as it can be, many people have never heard of color theory. Ever feel as though you have a million clothes, but nothing to wear? Wondering why the latest makeup trends just don't seem to look good on you?

The answer lies within our own individual coloring. By learning the basics of color theory, you can not only save yourself time and money, but you will also look your best on a regular basis!

Here are a few ways wearing the right colors can improve your life:

  • A Wardrobe That Works - find yourself with too many clothes and nothing that matches? People that wear their correct colors find that everything in their wardrobe goes together and that getting dressed in the morning is a snap. They can afford to buy nicer pieces of clothing that will last a long time, because they look nice on them and work with many other peices in their wardrobe. They also find that packing for vacation or business travel is very easy to do!
  • What Makeup? - feeling overwhelmed at the color selection when it comes time to buy makeup? People that wear their correct colors find that they don't need to spend tons of money trying to find the best shade of eyeshadow or the correct color lip gloss. Once you determine your colors, you will see that you only need a few kinds of makeup to look your best. And you will get a more natural, glowing look by wearing your colors than you will by just wearing the latest trend.
  • Money in the Bank, Time on Your Hands - hate going shopping because it seems to take forever? When you know your colors, shopping will be a breeze. You can literally glance at a rack of clothes and determine right away if you should bother to try something on. This is especially important for busy people such as moms and working professionals who don't have the time or money to waste trying to figure out what looks best on them.
  • Confidence - feeling like your never quite as put together as everyone else? By learning your colors, you will feel confident and comfortable in what you wear. Many people notice that their sales increase, they get asked on more dates, and get more complements when they wear the colors that look good on them.

Color Theory

There are many schools of thought when it comes to color theory. The basics however rely on that fact that most people fit into one of four color schemes:
  • Winter- people who are considered winters will have very pale skin and darker or gray hair. They will look good in silvers as opposed to golds, and their skin has pink and red undertones.
  • Summer - people who are considered summers will have pale to medium skin with blonde or mousy brown hair. Just like winters, summers also look good in silver jewelry and their skin has pink and red undertones.
  • Autumn - people who are considered autumns will have medium skin or light skin with golden undertones. Autumns usually have darker hair with red highlights. Autumns will look good in gold jewelry.
  • Spring - people who are considered springs will have light to medium skin with golden undertones. Springs usually have blonde or lighter hair with red tones. Like autumns, springs will also look better in gold jewelry as opposed to silver.
